THE (UNOFFICIAL) SCOTTISH ANTHEM
Over 40 years ago Roy Williamson of 'The Corries' wrote this haunting melody and bittersweet lyrics to encapsulate the Scottish experience.
It has in that short time become part of Scottish folklore and was in a recent poll in Scotland voted overwhelmingly to be the people's choice for a Scottish anthem - far outvoting such traditional tunes as 'Scotland the Brave' and others.
We reproduce here the lyrics - so perhaps you can print them and bring them to join in and sing along when the anthem is played at Brigadoon.
You can also download here an MP3 file of the melody (courtesy of Rob Parker and the Southern Highlands Pipes and Drums) to play on your computer. DOWNLOAD HERE - MP3 file, 2.15mins, 2MB. Transfer this to your iPod or MP3 player by choosing 'Save As' in your browser after it downloads, then upload it to your player.

| English Version
O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
2. And stood against him,
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
3. The hills are bare now,
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now,
Which those so dearly held
4. That stood against him,
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
5. Those days are past now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again.
6. That stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again. |
