Drones & Sticls Pipe Band

The Drones & Sticks Pipe Band is based in Taradale, a suburb of the Art Deco city, Napier on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand.

The band is a very successful organisation that has established a name of high regard in Hawke's Bay through its public showing at community events and its focus on young people. The band appears at public events such as Anzac Day and Napier's Art Deco festivals, and parades such as the city and suburban retailers' Christmas and Blossom parades. Performances at corporate and other functions have been very popular and in addition the band presents concerts at venues throughout the region. Members regularly travel to other regions in the Central North Island region to parade.

Formed in 1999 the band does not compete but concentrates on its public appearances. Recent examples of the band's commitment to supporting community organisations include parading for the Red Cross and Scouting movement gatherings, the HB Rugby Union and schools rugby competition, church parades for St Andrew's Day. These are a very successful way of promoting the pipe band movement in Hawke's Bay.

Members actively support kindred organisations in the region and regularly perform at Inglesides. There is a focus on teaching drumming and piping with a number of youngsters participating in band activities. The band is also very fortunate to have the backing of a very loyal and active group of supporters.

Current projects include the trip to Bundanoon, NSW, in April 2008 to participate in the Brigadoon Festival, and the purchase of new uniforms.
