The Design Process

Ian aspires to design furniture that is both functional and uncomplicated. Visual simplicity is the key to his designs. He likes to mix other materials with timber such as coloured Laminex, tiles and stainless steel. This helps to create visual interest in his work. Ian designs his work on paper first and then makes models to ensure he is happy with the intended outcome.

Good Wood

Ian is passionate about the state of the world's forests. Good Wood is defined by Greenpeace as timber which

• is produced with minimal harm to forests

• protects people's livelihoods in the forest

• is verified as coming from 'well-managed' forest or plantation such as community 'ecotimber' or certified by a credible certification system such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Ian purchases his timber from The Woodage in Mittagong which ensures he uses only Good Wood.

Ian finishes his timber with wood oil that is environmentally friendly such as Bio Natural Wood Oil manufactured in South Australia.

Purchasing

Ian makes most of his furniture to order. He will even design a piece to suit your requirements.
