WOMBEYAN CAVES

Approximately 65 kms. west of Mittagong in the Burragorang Valley, Wombeyan Caves is an extensive series of beautiful limestone caves.

Five of these have been developed for public inspection and are easily accessible on graded paths. Guided tours are available, or a self-guided tour can be taken through one of the caves by following the paths. The speleologically minded can take tours through wild caves by arrangement with the Caves Reserve Trust.

There are bushwalking tracks, where you can see the beauty of the bush and local fauna, facilities for camping, swimming, barbecues, and a kiosk for refreshments.

Overnight stays are available in units, vans, or a cottage.

How to get there.

From Mittagong:

Wombeyan Caves is reached via Wombeyan Caves Road, 4 kms south of Mittagong on the Old Hume Highway. (Exit freeway to Mittagong travelling south; drive through town; take right fork at lights in center of town towards Berrima; take overpass over freeway; then turn right at Tourist Drive 13.)

Tourist Drive 13 is a spectacular drive through High Range (25kms sealed road) then up and down through mountains and valleys (a further 40kms dirt road). Suitable for ordinary cars, except in extreme wet weather.

Stop at Lookouts along the way; picnic, camp, or fish at Goodman's Ford (29kms from Mittagong).

From Goulburn:

Wombeyan Caves can also be reached from Goulburn and Taralga on Tourist Drive 13 for those travelling north (77kms from Goulburn).

Open 8.30a.m. to 4.00p.m. daily. (Tour duration unlimited during day of entry.) Disabled access not available.
