One of the oldest agricultural shows in NSW. Held every March at Robertson Showground with exhibitions of local agriculture and industry.

Friday: Dairy Cattle, Pavilion.

Saturday: Beef Cattle, Poultry, Dogs, Alpacas.

Pavilion: Farm and dairy produce, arts & crafts, cookery, flowers, handicrafts, knitting, spinning & weaving, lace making, photography, preserves, needlework, junior arts & crafts.

7 MAR: THIRLMERE FESTIVAL OF STEAM

See Thirlmere come alive with steam trains, steam machinery, historic vehicles, stalls, displays by local groups and much more. See Thomas the Tank Engine. Ride the steam locos 3801, 3830 and 3112 - hourly departures from Thirlmere station.

Visitors can also explore the NSW Rail Transport Museum with Australia's largest display of historic locomotives, carriages and rail memorabilia. Lots of activities.

Held every March at the Moss Vale Showgrounds over 3 days, the Moss Vale Agricultural Show is one of NSW's largest country shows.

Attractions include: Horse, Showjumping, Beef Cattle, Boer Goats, Alpaca Display, Poultry, Woodchop, Farmyard Nursery & the Pavilion - with Arts & Crafts needlework, handcraft exhibits, photography, preserves & cooking, porcelain, wool weaving, flowers, fruit & vegetable, displays fireworks and Sideshow Alley.

17 APR: BUNDANOON IS BRIGADOON

For one day every year the mythical village of Brigadoon rises from the mists, and Bundanoon in the Southern Highlands become Brigadoon - one of the world's largest Highland Gatherings.

Hundreds of pipers and drummers, a street parade, massed bands, Highland Games (toss the caber!), and hundreds of stalls, displays and activities.

Bundanoon is Brigadoon normally attracts up to 20,000 visitors from around Australia, and is one of the major events of the Southern Highlands.

Not to be missed! Whether you are of Scots ancestry, or looking for one of the most enjoyable and interesting of days out with the family, a trip to Brigadoon (perhaps on a heritage train) will be a day to remember.

There will be local producers and crafts people with over 130 stalls with items for sale as diverse as fire tongs, leather waistcoats, treasure boxes and embroidered cushions.

THROSBY PARK OPEN DAY

Home of Charles Throsby - the Throsby Park Historic Site is one of great interest and is a remarkable representative of the activities of landholders since the 1830's. This is especially important in NSW where most of the large early homesteads built close to Sydney have subsequently lost their early outbuildings and farmyard details.

Built in 1834 on land granted by Governor Macquarie in 1819, this large and distinctive Colonial residence has been the home of the Throsby Family for 5 generations. Many of the items in the house are Throsby family relics.

1 MAY: BLACK & COLOURED SHEEP BREEDERS ASSOC - SPINNING, WEAVING & WOOLCRAFT FESTIVAL

Display of coloured sheep and the wool products derived from them.

Spinning, weaving, carding and felting demonstrations of the wool; speed knitting competition; and fashion parades of clothing made from coloured wools.

Sale of wool fleeces, spinning & weaving supplies, and other wool products. Refreshments available.

SIBERIAN HUSKY CLUB - INTRODUCTORY WEEKEND

Beginning of the season combining the Dash in the Dark and Novice Mushup.

Sled dogs (more popularly known as huskies) are the main traditional method of transport for the Inuit of northern Canada, and the Eskimos of the Arctic. Australian scientists and explorers have also traditionally used them in the Antarctic.

Although there is no snow, the races here are adapted for local conditions, and sled dog fanciers pit their skills - and those of their dogs - on cross country racing. Families and children welcome - but please leave pets at home.

Apple DayAPPLE DAY - TALLONG

The Tallong Community Focus Group, is organising a Family & Friends Fun Day and celebrations to recognise the heritage of Tallong. Apples will be the theme of the day and any profits will be distributed to the local community.

Lots of street market stalls, including local produce stalls with apples and a variety of products for sale (new stall holders are welcome); displays of classic cars and steam engines; food and refreshments; history exhibition; novelty games; chocolate wheel; photographic and apple peeling competitions for all ages; street theatre; live music; quilt and craft displays; displays by ambulance and rural fire brigade and an 'APPLE' bake-off competition (pies, cakes, tarts, chutneys, etc.). Any profits will be distributed to the local community.

Inaugural Bush Dancing Festival held in 2009. The event is expected to have callers and musicians from Sydney, Canberra, Illawarra and beyond.

There are up to four venues for a variety of interesting and challenging workshops and the Soldiers Memorial Hall has a great dance floor for the planned evening dances.

The emphasis will be on Bush Dancing but there will be plenty of scope for Irish, Scottish, English, Contra, European and more as well.

Bundanoon Winter Festival BUNDANOON WINTERFEST

A month of weekend community activities in Bundanoon to tempt people outside to enjoy those crisp days of a Highlands winter.

Music, stalls, street entertainment, photographic competition display on the evening of the 3rd, piano recital and concert. With street stalls on the 4th & 18th. Christmas in July dinners on the 4th, 11th & 18th at Treetops Guest House. Village markets on the 5th & 19th.

Other activities include Fitness Classes, drawing and folk art workshops, early morning bike rides at Ye Olde Bicycle Shop, village rambles, tours of the National Park, sourdough bread making, felting, garden art for kids, fruit tree grafting, rose pruning and chook care workshops, and a "Garage Sale" all day on the 19th at The Old Goods Shed.

All Vietnam Veterans and their families are invited to take part in a ceremony at Cherry Tree Walk, Settlers Park, Bowral - Australia's major Vietnam War Memorial. Starts 3.30pm.

The ceremony commemorates the role of D Company 6RAR in the battle of Long Tan, near the Australian base at Nui Dat in 1966.

The centrepiece to festivities is a massed display of 100,000 tulips and 25,000 annuals in Corbett Gardens, Bowral.

There are also: some private gardens open for inspection - including tours and talks, and a shuttle bus which runs from Bowral station (on weekends) ; a street fair; window displays; and entertainment throughout the festival in Corbett Gardens.

Admission to Corbett Gardens is $8.00pp and $5 for concessions and children from 13 to 17 years, children under 12 free. For groups of 20+ the cost is $4.50 pp.

The Fitzroy Falls Fire Trail Marathon is an annual run which commences at 8.00am. There are 10km and 5km fire trail charity fun runs and 5km walk for all the family starting at 9.00am as well as the marathon for serious runners 42.195km run quite separately with full runner support which starts at 8.00am. The sixth annual Silver Tassie - the Australasian Young Piper of the Year (a solo bagpiping competition for pipers in age groups under 26).

This prestigious contest leads to the award of the title of Australasian Young Piper of the Year.

Australia Day, Berrima26 JAN: AUSTRALIA DAY CELEBRATIONS

Every Australia Day there is a street festival, parade, ceremony, bands, entertainment and activities for all the family in Historic Berrima.

With over 60-market stalls local and interstate and entertainment for all the family grand parades vintage cars, fire engine displays, fresh produce markets, face painting there is something for every one. The atmosphere is one of a real Aussie family day out with a bit of patriotism and pride in our country thrown in for good measure.

The official part of the day starts at the Historic Berrima Court House Museum at 9.30am where Young Citizen and Citizen of the Year awards are given by the Mayor of the Shire. This is followed by an address by the Australia Day Ambassador then it's tea and damper for all.

Historic Vehicles RallyHISTORIC VEHICLES, ANNUAL RALLY

Annual rally of the Berrima District Historic Vehicle Club inc. with 100 historic vehicles coming from all over the state for two days of social events, displays and runs across the Highlands.

Vehicles will be at the Mittagong Community Centre, corner Albert and Queen Streets Mittagong  from 9.00am to 12.00noon for display and judging. As well, all entrants in the Rally have a vote for the best car in the decades of construction, example 1940-49.

Visitors are welcome and there is no entry charge unless wishing to display or enter an historic vehicle which incurs a fee of $30. Vehicles entered or displayed must be 30 years old or older at the date of the Rally.

For Rally entrants there will be a dinner dance on the Saturday night. Runs will be held Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. For further information or entry form please ring (02) 4889 4251.
